Peter enters another T-shirt contest at Clemson

For those of you who are not Tiger fans, Dabo Swinney is our new head football coach and so Clemson is having a T-shirt contest and he is the theme of the contest...here is Peter's submission...

Leave it to Peter!! He is a nut but also a good graphic design artisit and I hope he wins!!

Bowling League Results

Connor and Sarah Beth bowled in a Virtual League through their school. They had to physically bowl at their local bowling alley and then post scores to the virtual league...they had to get printouts to prove they bowled. They competed with over 400 students nationwide.

We had tons of fun bowling each week....Connor came in 1st in the State and Sarah Beth came in 4th in their age division.

Connor came in 2nd in the Nation...WOW WOW WOW!!!!! His average was 107! Go Connor!! Sarah Beth had super improvement as the weeks went by. She landed in the top 20 in the nation and her average was 88. Way to go SB!!!

They will be watching the mail, eagerly awaiting their trophies!!

Dixie Youth Baseball...Opening day 2009

What a truly gorgeous day for baseball!!! It was sunny and 80 degrees and felt FABULOUS!!! I forgot how much I love little league baseball...Connor played a year of t-ball back when he was 4 but this was his first day of Coach Pitch and he did great! The team lost but Connor played the whole game and was up to bat twice..he hit a single to 3rd base and then a true double somewhere in the outfield...they were hit hard and he reports that he had a good time but true Sheridan/Swilley combo that he is, he added, "But it would have been a lot more fun to win".

Yeah, but there's always next week!
when the games will be Monday at 6 pm and Saturday at 11:15

Why old people should NOT have children...

So when I was a little girl, my grandma had children our ages and we thought that was cool...but we also thought they had everything on earth...the latest toys, they got handed money whenever they wanted it, just all kinds of stuff...I remember they had the very first "PONG" atari game and we played that for hours...man I loved going to their house!!!

We have always had many more kids than dollars and what we had, we didn't manage well and my kids didn't have all of the extras their friends had either...Peter played all star baseball and he never had his own bat or a bag and he surely never had his own BATTING HELMET..he was lucky to have cleats...Andrew won State Titles in cross country and track with holes in his shoes because we couldn't afford to replace them as fast as he wore them out and when we did buy new ones, they were whatever was on sale at the discount shoe store...I remember when Bishop Whetstone bought a ton of whatever he was selling in track and so he won a pair of real running shoes and he was so proud of them, I swear he slept with them...One day Heather lost her temper with me because Lanelle was 12 and had 3 shirts and one pair of jeans in her closet and that was it!! One of my friends worked at Gap and had bought a Gap jacket for me with her discount and she wore it everyday...I thought she liked it that much...I swear I didn't know she had no clothes...y'all know I am not a clotheshorse and that wasn't on my radar back then (my precious MB came along and taught LaNelle how to PUT it on my radar!!!) when my older boys were young they wanted a nintendo more than anything...and about 3 years after everyone else had them, Santa brought a very used one with 2 games...and we NEVER had the money to buy more and Game Stop didn't exist so they didn't play it much...but they are all pretty smart and talented and creative and so that probably wasn't a bad thing. In high school they moaned and groaned because we didn't have cable tv or the internet or cell phones...

OK now that I have totally humiliated my kids, you are asking...and the point is????

I just straightened up the family room and noticed Connor's Nike bat bag standing ready for his first game tomorrow and that it is stuffed with a brand new glove, designer batting gloves (he's in coaches pitch for crying out loud), a very expensive "weighted to him" ORANGE bat and his very own batting helmet that can be adjusted to his head...and then I turned off the computer that is "the kids", turned off the cable TV, put away Connor's DS lite and Sarah Beth's ipod and almost tripped over the new wii fit (but that is MINE and I love it!!)...

hmmm...and now those 8 year old not only have FaceBook accounts, they each have a blog...

Old People should NOT BE ALLOWED to have kids...
(the point of this was to tell you that the twins each created a blog as an exercise in following directions and to help with writing skills...if you ask a question for them to answer when you comment, they will never know they are doing school work! I will lock them soon because I have one tiny parenting brain cell left so send me an email if you want to be on their approved list...)

Coming this summer to beaches in SC...

So Pete always wanted to retire at the beach with a metal detector and a few years ago, the kids pitched in and gave him a walmart variety one. He loved it and used it much to the delighted embarrassment of us all! When Uncle Floyd told us we would not have to pay taxes but would get $$$$$ back...Pete mentioned that he would really like to spend some money on something for himself...in 25 years..I am NOT EXAGGERATING..in 25 years, Pete has NEVER EVER asked for anything and never spent a dime on himself...no hobbies...no toys (crazy for we know boys like toys)...no nothing...in fact, he rarely even eats lunch and will literally wear holes in his shoes...BUT...he will move mountains to give us what we ask for...so I was THRILLED and EXCITED that he actually wanted something...but I cracked up when he said he wanted to upgrade his metal detector...huh?
He had been looking online and found a really expensive one that can go 200 feet underwater and is immune to the salt water at the beach so he can go to the water's edge and if a huge wave comes, all is well...and he even found a refurbished one with a like-new warranty for 1/3 of the new cost. It's a Viper Trident! (whatever the heck that is...)
It arrived today and he had to set it up...notice it has ear phones....oh my heck, I am married to a nerd...a wonderful, incredible awesome loving nerd but...still
I couldn't be happier for him (but I might ignore him when he's on the beach this summer)
So be ready...he has it and he can't wait to use it...we might spend a few days this Spring at the beach...I don't think he can wait until June!
and remember that he promised the first ring he finds to Patti...

Some random Sheridan activities this week...

Like sands in the hourglass, so are the days of our lives...
*************
We ran errands...
played with Owen (we LOVE when he comes to visit!!)

Connor decorated a cake for the Blue and Gold Banquet...he could have help but he does not have a creative or talented Mama so he used a mold and made candy forms of a dinosauer and lava and palm trees and decorated the cake with blue and gold icing...and he did it with very limited help...cool!
We had fun at Connor's cub scout Blue and Gold Banquet...you'd have to know Brother Mahalic to appreciate this...he is a nut...but an awesome and fun cub scout pack leader!!!
And it was so fun to spend a little time on Friday with friends in the Gilbert Park...even though I couldn't stay long...but the twins got to stay thanks to Lauralan offering to bring them home so I could go grab a few hours sleep before work...THANK YOU Lauaralan..we had a great time and it was soooo good to see Tammy and her girls!! I saw this gloomy sight when I left work Saturday morning...but the rain made for good sleeping!

and look what Clemson looks like today!!!! (I grabbed this off the live webcam on Clemson's website) wish we were there but maybe it will snow here tonight....
We also did a lot of school work, had a great FHE, cleaned (yuck!), did science and history projects, talked with family and friends, cooked, checked in at Jenny Craig (yeah!!)went to baseball practice, ordered a Wii Fit!, etc etc...
